The need
Team Leaders play an important role in helping shifts run safely and smoothly, but the existing training needed to better reflect the role, current systems and the practical situations Team Leaders encounter on shift.
The refreshed training needed to bring essential information together in one place, make procedures easier to find and understand, and help Team Leaders feel confident knowing what to do and where to find support.
The solution
I designed a refreshed online learning experience that brings together the key information Team Leaders need in a clear, practical and engaging way.
The learning was structured around the questions Team Leaders are likely to have when preparing for and leading a shift, rather than simply presenting policies and procedures as information to read.
KEY STEPS INCLUDED:
→ Collaborating with Volunteer Experience, Operations and subject matter experts to clarify responsibilities and identify essential content.
→ Restructuring the learning around practical questions and real shift situations.
→ Designing scenario-based learning to help Team Leaders apply procedures in context.
→ Creating clear visuals, interactive elements and knowledge checks to support understanding.
→ Integrating guidance for MyOS, safety procedures, volunteer training, shift reporting and escalation.
→ Reviewing and refining the module through stakeholder feedback.

The refreshed Team Leader training provides a clearer pathway through the role, bringing responsibilities, systems, safety procedures and practical guidance together in one learning experience.
